SEARK Shatters Scoring Record in Season Opener
Sharks explode for 109 points in statement win over Community Christian College
PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Southeast Arkansas College Sharks wasted no time setting the tone for the 2025-26 season, lighting up the scoreboard in a record-breaking 109-72 victory over Community Christian College (La.) on Tuesday night at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
Head Coach Chad Kline praised his team's pace and execution after the win.
"I thought our guards did a great job getting downhill and kicking out," Kline said. "When you get stops and push the tempo, the game opens up. We found a rhythm early, rebounded well, and got out in transition."
Sophomore forward Lavion Owens, a transfer from South Arkansas College, led all scorers with 24 points, including 18 in the first half. The versatile forward connected on three of SEARK's nine three-pointers and continued to show why he's a key piece for the Sharks this season.
"Lavion hurt us last year when he was at SouthArk," Kline added. "He's an undersized big who can score inside and stretch the floor. He's a true pick-and-pop threat."
The Sharks' balanced offense featured five players in double figures — Dominick Baptiste (20), Amir Rosa (17), Jordan Allen (13), and Andre Barnes (10). By the final buzzer, 13 of the 15 Sharks had contributed to the scoring column.
Community Christian struck first with a three-pointer, but SEARK quickly responded with a 9-0 run and never looked back. The Sharks dominated the boards and went on a 13-0 surge midway through the first half to take a commanding 45-20 lead, entering halftime ahead 59-33.
Despite a few lapses in transition defense, Kline was pleased with his team's overall energy.
"When we built the lead, we got a little loose defensively," he said. "That's something we'll clean up before our next game. Credit to Community — they hit some tough shots."

The Sharks (1-0) return to H.O. Clemmons Arena Friday for another home matchup, this time against Coahoma Community College (Miss.). The doubleheader will also feature the season debut of the SEARK women's basketball team.
